There are many ways to do a kitchen remodel, from minor upgrades to a complete overhaul. For this kitchen in Orcutt, California, we were able to achieve a very new and updated look at a very reasonable cost. As you can see from the pictures, many of the surfaces were renewed or replaced—most notably the floor, countertops and cabinet fronts. This non-invasive kitchen renovation provided the family with a fresh, energetic space for cooking, entertaining and spending time as a family.
One of the most striking changes that we made was on the kitchen floor. The old white tiles with dark grout were definitely dated, and that type of floor also shows spills, dirt and hair very quickly. We removed the tiles and installed a distressed engineered floor, which looks like traditional hardwood, but at a much lower cost.
Another major part of this kitchen remodel was the changes to the cabinets. New Life Bath and Kitchen modified the existing cabinets to fit the new ovens. When the woodworking was done, our painters from New Life Painting matched the new cabinets with the old, and applied a darker finish to the whole set, for a richer, more elegant appearance.
Replacing the countertops and backsplash was one of the most striking upgrades. Both surfaces had previously been finished with a smaller version of the white tile from the floor. We replaced the original surfaces with Cambria Quartz countertops, and used a matching tile for the backsplash. In order to add variety and depth to the look, we used one row of horizontal tiles as the lowest portion of the backsplash, and then finished the wall beneath the cabinets with diagonal tiles.
Finally, we brought some classy finishing touches to this kitchen remodel with upgraded lighting and faucets. The old fluorescent light was removed, and we installed new inset lights in their place. We also introduced a motion-sensor faucet that was just released on the market by Moen.
What a difference a few inspiring updates can make! From out of date and drab to modern and attractive, this kitchen looks like a new room!
